📰 Hobbs Freshman High School “Spots” a Great Day — All Treats, No Tricks! 🐾
Hobbs Freshman High School was killing it today in true Halloween spirit — it’s been all treats and no tricks! Principal Weldy, better known today as Cruella DeVille, made her way through numerous classrooms for observations and found both staff and students fully engaged in enriching, hands-on learning.
In Mrs. Dixon’s Biology class, students were up to their elbows in slime! With 11 stations and five different recipes, it was a true scientific experiment — some were thrilled with their gooey success while others were “mad” that theirs turned out to be a “dud.” Either way, learning was messy and memorable.
Meanwhile, in Intro to C-Tech, students were mastering real-world skills using the T-shirt press. They helped create custom 101 Dalmatians shirts for staff to proudly support the mischievous Cruella herself. (Cruella insists, however, that she’s a changed woman — she loves her Dalmatians and wouldn’t dream of causing shenanigans with anyone else!)
Over in Mr. Holmsley’s World Geography class, students explored Halloween traditions across the nation. They examined themed U.S. maps showing each state’s favorite candy and the population of trick-or-treaters, followed by a fascinating cultural discussion about how Halloween is celebrated worldwide.
In Mrs. Pel’s Math classes, it was game on! Students participated in a “Coach Rally” where Partner A and Partner B worked together using algebra tiles to strengthen math and collaboration skills.
Not to be outdone, Mrs. Rickman’s AVID class dove into suspense analysis. Using a graphic organizer, students broke down the techniques authors use to build suspense and rated each one individually. The critical thinking and engagement were through the roof.
One can always expect great things from the students and staff at Hobbs Freshman High School — and today was no exception. In a world full of tricks, HFHS proved to be a safe (and spooky) stop full of treats, teamwork, and creativity.
The fun didn’t stop there — the Principals also hosted a friendly Flip the Bottle and Tic Tac Toe tournament at lunch, combining teamwork, strategy, and a little bit of Halloween cheer.
No pups were harmed in today’s adventures — just a few spotted having the time of their lives! 🐶🎃
